Polycarbonate as a material offers roughly 250 times the impact strength of glass and about 30 times that of acrylic. Is 9mm polycarbonate bulletproof?
No. Solid 9mm polycarbonate is not a certified bullet-resistant (UL 752) product on its own — that requires laminated assemblies around 1 inch (25mm) or thicker. What 9mm ULTRATUF genuinely is: highly impact-resistant and forced-entry-resistant, at roughly 250 times the impact strength of glass.
How much does 9mm polycarbonate sheet weigh?
Approximately 2.2 lbs per square foot. A full 4' x 8' sheet works out to roughly 70 lbs — heavy, but still far lighter than glass of comparable thickness and manageable without special lifting equipment.
What's the difference between 9mm and 12mm?
12mm is our thickest, heaviest-duty sheet — about 35% heavier per square foot than 9mm — and offers greater rigidity for larger unsupported spans and high-traffic security applications. 9mm is a strong step up from 6mm while staying lighter and easier to handle, which suits skylights, machine guarding, and general security glazing.
